Another interesting idea...

I really enjoy running, but tend to get various pains in my shins and my knees. I think I'm going to try this out and see what happens...

Owwwww! That hurts my legs just watching it. Funny you mention this today as on my run I was remembering when the CBC did a piece on this guy and his book. You can get these sweet neoprene sort of slippers if you don't want to be barefoot.

Something to consider here in Stab City where the sidewalks are covered in horse crap. Let me know how it goes if you try it!!

It works! I'm a runner and I can tell you that the best case scenario is to run barefoot, and on a substance that "gives," like sand. Running barefoot on a beach will almost never give you shinsplints, or any other pains. However, reality frequently prevents me from obtaining this best case scenario. So, I've found certain stretches before running can definitely help to minimize knee and shin pain! Especially ones that stretch the ligaments in and around the knee. Also, there are some shoes out (I forget the brand and haven't bought them yet), that are supposed to be the closest thing to barefoot. I might try 'em out. Anyway, have fun with your experiment! Avoid the steaming piles! :)

I get shocking shin splints. Clearly I am not meant to be a runner (don't think I have the "ideal build" for it either), but it is a shame because I like it and want to do it more. Running barefoot would be very dependant on the area you are running in, those neoprene things could be a good idea :-)
